The Technology for AIT Turbo Media Since the AIT format was first introduced into the market in 1996, Sony has employed AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated) tape technology. 100% pure cobalt is evaporated and deposited directly on the base film for high magnetic flux density and coercivity. Above the magnetic layer is the tough DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) protective layer and high performance lubricant coating. With this proven AME technology, Sony has developed AIT Turbo media for cost-effective solutions while maintaining the reliable AIT characteristics. AIT Turbo media can only be used with an AIT Turbo drive. Sony TAITE-20N AIT Turbo tape is an Advanced Intelligent Tape E Turbo (AIT-E Turbo) format tape cartridge. It has a tape length of 186 meters which enables a native data storage capacity of 20GB that can be expanded up to 52GB when compressed. It features the use of Advance Metal Evaporated (AME) technology which increases reliability and durability and guarantees a 30 year archival life. The efficient Helical Scan technology offers a native data transfer rate of up to 6MB/s.The Sony TAITE-20N turbo media is compliant only with AIT Turbo drives.
